Registration with WSIB
Before you register, ensure you have the necessary business information handy. You can register with the WSIB using the following methods:
Mandatory Registration:
Most businesses in Ontario that employ workers (including family members and sub-contractors) must register with the WSIB within 10 days of hiring their first full or part-time worker. There are severe penalties and possible prosecution if you do not comply.
Voluntary Registration:
The WSIB and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) share information about businesses that are required to register under the WSIB. As a result, you may be contacted by the WSIB about registration requirements. If companies come forward about their non-compliance with registration obligations, the WSIB may:
Compliance Poster:
The WSIB poster In case of injury (Form 82) must be prominently displayed in every workplace covered by the WSIB. If you can't print it, you can order one by calling 1-800 387-0750 WSIB order line.
WSIB Audits
You do have the right to ask the audit be rescheduled. This request should only be done once and for good reason. For example, if you are a roofing company or landscaper - summer is the busiest time of year. Your accountant may be on vacation, etc.
