Like residents, Alberta small businesses are struggling with the ongoing affordability crisis. Taxes exacerbate this crisis, raising the cost of doing business and reducing employee’s wages. Large budget surplus projections by the Alberta Government provide an opportunity to address affordability for both residents and businesses.
This report analyzes the impact of lowering the personal income tax, small business tax rate, and insurance premium tax on Alberta’s provincial revenues. The report further shows that given the Alberta government’s large budget surplus, the province can afford to lower all these taxes while maintaining large surpluses.
