Winnipeg, June 1, 2022 – With 76% of small businesses reporting that fuel and energy costs are causing difficulties for their business, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is urging the government of Manitoba to follow other provinces that are providing their residents with fuel tax relief.
Cost relief is becoming increasingly urgent for small business owners, who are faced with skyrocketing inflation, increased input costs, supply chain challenges, and labour shortages. Fewer than half of Manitoba small businesses report being back to normal, pre-pandemic sales.
The Manitoba government could help small businesses by following other provinces that have already provided relief for record-high fuel costs. Alberta stopped collecting provincial fuel taxes as of April 1, lowering costs at the pump by 13 cents a litre, and Newfoundland and Ontario have also announced plans to reduce their provincial fuel taxes.
